PIT & Persistent Pain

PIT & Persistent Pain

Do you have Persistent Pain?

Prolotherapy and Perineural Injection Treatment (PIT) may be an option for you.

Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection treatment for pain that supports healing of injured ligaments and tendons.  Perineural Injection Treatment (PIT) supports healing of nerves that are causing persistent pain.

Prolotherapy and PIT are indicated treatments for common pain conditions like lower back pain, knee pain, Achilles tendinopathy, old injuries that still cause pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, post-surgical pain, MVA injuries, sports injuries, tendonitis, and shoulder pain to name a few.

Perineural Injection Treatment (PIT), Dextrose/Sugar and Nerves

What is the connection?  How does PIT help pain?

Pain comes from nerves, and nerves need energy to heal.

PIT treats pain caused by energy deficient nerves with near-nerve injections of 5% dextrose/sugar solution.  Dextrose provides the energy for the nerve cells to produce ATP energy (‘the fuel of life’) – this restores nerve equilibrium, inhibits pain, and supports tissue regeneration and healing.

Nerves communicate with the brain and tell the brain that we have pain. Non-healing sensory nerves can be the cause of chronic pain, inflammation, and delayed healing. PIT treatment consists of near-nerve injections with 5% dextrose (sugar) solution which is nutritive and creates energy for the nerve to heal.

The goal of every treatment is to extinguish the pain, providing immediate analgesia (pain relief) lasting from hours to days. Repeated treatments will steadily reduce pain as the nerve and surrounding structures heal, allowing for return to optimal function.

Imagine a lower back injury, the nerves AND muscles AND tendons can be injured leading to pain.  PIT provides the nutritive energy in the form of dextrose injected near the injured painful nerves to reduce pain, reduce edema/swelling and support repair and healing for the whole area.

Dr. Jennifer Moss is passionate about helping people recover from pain using PIT, prolotherapy, massage and naturopathic care.  She would be honoured to help you on your journey towards optimal health.
